The Buffalo Bills are done with a very talented but incredibly frustrating rookie wide receiver in Da’Rick Rogers, whose character concerns were so vast that he went undrafted despite his talent. I’ve never been a fan of Rogers, and it has to do with his attitude in college. The Tennessee Volunteers did indeed kick Rogers off the team about a year ago, but that came far too late. Rogers was always a huge character concern on the Tennessee campus, and he probably should have been cut six months earlier than that.
It was wise for the Bills to take a flier on Rogers in undrafted free agency, because the no-risk, high-reward is just too good with Rogers as a UDFA. That reward, however, never came to fruition, and it once again goes back to the character issues. Rogers was already in the doghouse for not lining up in the right spots and for not taking criticism from the coaching staff well. Not only that, but he didn’t exactly have a good training camp, which was a far cry from his really promising spring. Rogers didn’t even play against the Washington Redskins, and the Bills barely played him in Week 2.
Cutting ties with Da’Rick Rogers probably wasn’t the easiest decision this team made, and that says a lot about Rogers’s character issues. I think he will be claimed on waivers, but he is certainly on a very short leash. He was on a short leash with the Buffalo Bills to begin with, but his next team will definitely keep a close eye on him. For the record, I don’t think he signs with the New England Patriots, and I really hope Bill Belichick and the Pats stay away from this headcase.
The Buffalo Bills also cut another wide receiver in DeMarco Sampson, two defensive backs in Jumal Rolle and Dominique Ellis, and center Ryan Turley.
